Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has mourned the passing of renowned Ghanaian hilife musician Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, describing the news as devastating.

In a statement, the former President said the passing of the artist hit him like a thunderbolt, noting that he never heard of his illness, which makes it all the more shocking.

Recalling the late artist’s impact, Kufuor highlighted the unique voice and lyrics that made Daddy Lumba a musical icon.

“Daddy Lumba, an iconic and highly-talented musician of our times, surely captivated the hearts and minds of many in Ghana, and indeed, many highlife enthusiasts the world over, with his peculiar voice and lyrics,” he noted.

Kufuor indicated that Lumba’s lyrics were not only thrilling but “transcendental, and enjoyable,” adding that he counted himself as one of the late musician’s favourite devotees.

The former president reminisced about Lumba’s annual “Night of the Legends” concerts, some of which he had personally been invited to.

He described the late musician as “a precious gift of our Creator to us all to enjoy while he was with us here on earth,” and urged Ghanaians to celebrate his remarkable achievements and life.
