GFA halts Ghana Premier League following fan death in Nsoatre

Premier League clubs in Ghana are set to receive a financial boost ahead of the 2025/26 season, following the Ghana Football Association’s announcement of a GHS1 million disbursement per club.

The package, described as an “investment” rather than a grant, was unveiled by GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku at the Movenpick Hotel in Accra on July 30, 2025.

He announced “This is not a grant. This is not a number, it is a commitment to club transformation. It is an investment, an investment in performance, in visibility, and in the business of football.

“It is the difference between delayed salaries and timely payments; between outdated medical rooms and fully equipped health centres; between empty stands and vibrant, media-ready stadiums,” he indicated.

The initiative, he explained is expected to support improvements in club operations, infrastructure, and commercial readiness.

He added that the financial support will reinforce the GFA’s broader agenda to professionalise domestic football.

In a related development, the GFA boss has entered into a strategic partnership with Adesa Production Limited (APL) to oversee the broadcast and commercialisation of Ghana Premier League matches for the upcoming season.

“The GFA is pleased to announce a landmark partnership with Adesa Production Limited (APL) as the official broadcast and commercialisation partner for the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season,” the Association noted.

The dual announcement signals a renewed push toward visibility, marketability, and long-term sustainability of Ghanaian football, aligning infrastructure investment with enhanced media presence.
