President John Mahama and his Vice, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, will this afternoon join members of the public, friends, and family of victims of Wednesday’s tragic helicopter accident for a solemn ceremony to honor the departed.

The event, scheduled for 1:00 PM at the Ceremonial Garden in front of the Presidency, will feature the laying of flowers and lighting of candles in memory of those lost.

The ceremony marks the beginning of a three-day national mourning period declared by the government, running from Thursday, 7 August to Saturday, 9 August 2025.

According to an official statement issued by the Presidency Communications, the mourning period is intended to foster national reflection and remembrance.

Activities will continue on Friday with further public tributes at the same venue. The mourning period will conclude on Saturday with an “Evening of Reflections and Memorials” at the Forecourt of the State House, beginning at 5:00 PM.

“These three days offer our nation a vital opportunity to collaboratively mourn and reflect on the profound loss we have experienced,” the statement said.

Ghanaians have been urged to observe the days with dignity and respect.
