President John Dramani Mahama has announced the posthumous promotion of the three Ghana Airforce officers who lost their lives in the August 6 tragic helicopter crash.

At the state funeral held on Friday, August 15, 2025 at the Independence Square, he described the fallen victims as true patriots who made an ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, pointing out that their dedication, bravery and sacrifice will forever be remembered by the nation.

Among those posthumously promoted were Wing Commander Peter Baafemi Anala, Flight Lieutenant Manean Twum Ampadu and Flight Lieutenant Ernest Addo Mensah, with their new ranks formally accorded by the Ghana Armed Forces in acknowledgement of their dedicated service to the country.

“Accordingly, I have approved the following; Squadron Leader Peter Bufami Anala is promoted to the rank of Wing Commander, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu is promoted to the rank of Flight Lieutenant, Sergeant Ernest Addo is promoted to the rank of Flight Sergeant.

“These are not just symbolic gestures, they represent the rightful place these officers have earned in our republic’s role of honour,” President Mahama noted.
