The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has disclosed that Ghanaian musician Charles Nii Armah Mensah, known by the stage name Shatta Wale, is unable to identify the individual from whom he allegedly purchased a 2019 Lamborghini Urus.

The said vehicle has been linked to a $4 million criminal case in the United States involving Nana Kwabena Amuah, a Ghanaian currently serving a jail term.

According to EOCO, Shatta Wale claimed he bought the luxury car “from the Street” and pointed to one named “ZAK,” who may have contacted him via WhatsApp.

“He does not know and whose contact he has thrown away,” EOCO stated, disclosing Shatta’s inability to provide any further details about the seller’s identity.

In a detailed statement of the musician detention, EOCO, highlighted that the accused also failed to produce any formal documentation to support his claim of ownership durin

“So far, Charles Nii Armah Mensah does not possess any documentation in terms of receipt or transfer documents which shows that he owns or purchased the said vehicle,” EOCO noted. The only document in his possession is a customs declaration bearing the name of Nana Kwabena Amuah.

Shatta Wale was invited by EOCO to assist in investigations following a request from the FBI and the US Justice Department. The Lamborghini Urus was identified and seized in his possession around May 2025. On August 15, 2025, a United States District Court ordered the forfeiture of the vehicle as a substitute asset, authorizing the US Government to take possession of it in Ghana.

After arriving at EOCO’s office around 3pm on August 20, Shatta Wale insisted on waiting for his legal counsel before cooperating. EOCO investigators waited until 5pm for his lawyer to arrive, and the interrogation continued until 9pm. He was granted bail shortly thereafter.

“Charles Nii Armah Mensah was granted bail of GHC10,000,000 with two sureties to be justified,” EOCO confirmed. The agency added that once the sureties are presented, a standard inspection will be conducted before he is released from custody.

The investigation remains ongoing.
