A tense situation unfolded at the Sofoline lorry terminal in the Kwadaso Municipality when a group of individuals believed to be affiliated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) attempted to take over the management of the terminal from the current leadership.

However, the Municipal Chief Executive, Eric Assibey, swiftly intervened to maintain peace and order in the area on the morning of Tuesday, August 26, 2025.

But his intervention could not hold, as the Kwadaso Constituency Chairman of the ruling party, Issah Imoro, and his team later joined party supporters to claim the lorry terminal from the current management.

Later in the day, a team from the Ashanti Regional Security Coordinating Council, led by Captain Jabire, stepped in to prevent any potential escalation of the situation.

Chairman of the Sofoline lorry terminal, Albert Akwasi Boamah, expressed worry about the development and gave his account of the events.

“I was called that some men had invaded the terminal and were coming to take over the place. We are battling a court case with a faction, so I initially thought it was the same people who had come around. So I had to drive to the terminal to assess the situation. When I got there, they had locked up all our officers, with their men occupying our loading points. They told me that their actions were from orders from above.

“I probed who they were, and they said they were members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). I asked about their property at the terminal, which they were coming to take over. I boldly made them understand that we are disappointed in their actions and that nothing would make us succumb to their intimidation. So the best thing for them to do was go and come back another time if they believed they had a case,” Mr. Boamah explained to Bismark Mensah of Angel News.

He further highlighted that the group’s persistence created tension at the terminal until they managed the situation through reinforcement.

“They were adamant in the initial stages, which resulted in some level of tussle with tension brewing up. So we realized that their actions might end up causing something unfortunate, so I called for reinforcement, and we finally overpowered them.”
