The Interior Minister, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has assured that the government is fully committed to restoring peace in the Sawla-Bole area following recent violent incidents.

He expressed the administration’s serious concern over the loss of lives and property damage caused by the clashes.

Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak’s assurance was directed to the Overlord of Gonja, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, after a private meeting at the Jakpa Palace in Damongo on Sunday, August 31, 2025, following the recent clashes in the area.

“We want to appeal to all factions to understand that nothing can compare to peace. Once we agree to sit down and start talking, these tensions will be a thing of the past,” he noted.

The minister highlighted the need for stronger cooperation between traditional authorities, community leaders, and security agencies to resolve the tensions and ensure lasting peace.

Mr. Mohammed-Mubarak further revealed that several security units, including the military and police, have been deployed to patrol the affected areas.

He stated also that the government is working with neighbouring Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire to strengthen border security and prevent cross-border disruptions.
