A dispute erupted at the Akwatia Lorry Station within the Vawaso Electoral Area in the ongoing by-election, involving Alhaji Osman Masawudu, the third National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and the entourage of Chief Sofo Azorka, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to reports, the incident occurred in front of law enforcement officers.

Explaining the matter, Alhaji Masawudu, said he was granting an interview near the Akwatia Zongo area, where he had been assigned to oversee the electoral proceedings before his opponent confronted him.

“I have been assigned to supervise and monitor the election at Akwatia Zongo. In fact, I was granting an interview when a national vice chairman of the NDC, Azorka came straight to where I was granting the interview to attack me.

“This incident happened in the presence of the police. He said it clearly that today he will make sure that I will be caned here, myself and Afenyo-Markin,” he recounted.

Police officers stepped in to de-escalate the heated exchanges after reports suggested that an escort of Azorka attempted to hit Alhaji Masawudu.
