Health Minister to GRNMA: Your improved conditions will be implmented

The Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to implementing improved conditions of service for nurses and midwives across the country.

Speaking during a meeting with the leadership of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, the Minister pledged to ensure the successful execution of the collective bargaining agreement aimed at enhancing the welfare of nurses.

He further assured the Association of the government’s continuous support towards the ongoing transformation of the health sector in line with achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

“He urged all stakeholders and the general public to remain calm as government is committed to resolving challenges within the health sector,” he noted as quotated in statement from the sectory following the meeting.

Mr. Akandoh highlighted government’s achievements in the health sector, including the integration of 13,500 nurses into the government payroll, the establishment of the Ghana Medical Training Fund (GMTF), and the retooling of health facilities.

He also mentioned the payment of arrears on nursing training allowances, settlement of National Health Insurance claims, and government’s absorption of half of admission fees for nursing training institutions.

The minister said this when the GRNMA leadership paid a courtesy call on him and render an unqualified apology to him over a recent media attack on his person following the recent bruhaha of the attack incident at Ridge hospital.

The meeting also pave way for both parties where they discussed key issues to strengthen their working relationship.

Mr. Akandoh, who accepted the association’s apology in good faith advised them to prioritise dialogue and constructive engagement.

On their part, the GRNMA leadership raised several concerns affecting healthcare professionals and called for urgent interventions to improve service delivery.

In response, the minister urged them, stakeholders and the general public to remain calm as government is committed to resolving challenges within the health sector.
