The Electoral Commission has announced an extension of the nomination period for the Tamale Central Constituency Parliamentary By-Election, following the withdrawal of two out of three nominated candidates after the initial deadline.

In a statement issued on Friday, September 12, 2025, the Commission explained that the decision comes after two prospective candidates redrew their nominations.

“At the close of nominations on Wednesday, 10th September, 2025 three (3) Candidates stood nominated for the Tamale Central Constituency Parliamentary By-Election. Two (2) of the three (3) Candidates, however, withdrew their nominations after the close of nominations.

“Where two or more Candidates are nominated at the close of nomination, but before election day only one Candidate stands nominated, a further period of ten (10) days shall be allowed for nomination of other Candidates and it shall not be lawful for any person nominated within that period of ten days (10) to withdraw his/her nomination,” the EC said citing Article 50 (2) of the 1992 Constitution.

Accordingly, the Commission will re-open nominations from Friday, September 12 to Sunday, September 21, 2025. Nomination forms will be received at the Tamale Metropolitan Office of the Commission between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm, and again from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm daily.

Interested candidates are required to download the nomination forms from the Commission’s website (www.ec.gov.gh) within the stated period.

The EC explained that completed forms may be submitted personally by the candidate or delivered on their behalf by either the proposer or seconder to the Returning Officer at the Tamale Metropolitan Office.

The Commission urges the public to be guided accordingly.
