From critic to captain: Jordan Ayew’s resilient rise steers Black Stars to World Cup glory
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Ghana has made a history by making its 5th appearance at the most prestigious football event in the world, the World Cup, a 48 tournament which will be hosted by three countries, The United States of America, Mexico and Canada in 2026.

Ghana after a disappointment in the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifying, made an amends in the World Cup qualifiers and topped group I with 25 points, an impressive 23 goals, and conceded 6 from 10 games, where the team won 8, drew one and lost one.

Jordan Ayew, emerged as the best player of the qualifiers, the experienced forward scored 7 and provided 7 for his team mates. A remarkable goal in Bamako which helped the Black stars 2-1, proved to be the most important of the goals he scored.

A year ago, Jordan’s profound stats as a player were that, he is the most fouled forward, instead of the most goals scored or most assists provided. Laughable!

Critics like myself, have been tough on him, and at some point has called for his retirement from the team outright.

For a player, who has never seemed to have goals and assists in him all his career to evolve and power his country to the 2026 mundial deserves a profound commendation , and just like I called him out, I want to give him his flowers and congratulate him for this feet.

Jordan, has become the 4th captain to qualify Ghana to the World Cup after Stephen Appiah, 2006, 2010, Asamoah Gyan 2014 and Dede Ayew 2022.
