We’ll defend ourselves in subsequent elections if police can’t protect us – NPP’s Ama Daaku

Mahdi Gibrill

Deputy Director of Elections for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mahdi Gibril, has accused the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) of institutionalising corruption and using political power for personal enrichment.

He said the recent revelations surrounding the National Service Scheme (NSS) have exposed the hypocrisy of the NPP, who once claimed there were no ghost names on the payroll.

He recounted that when issues of ghost names were first raised, the NPP’s National Organizer, Henry Nana Boakye, dismissed the claims and accused critics of lacking a proper understanding of the figures.

However, Gibril stated that current investigations have proven otherwise, revealing how millions of cedis were siphoned through questionable transactions.

According to him, while many National Service personnel went for months without pay, others managed to pocket huge sums of money through dubious means.

He also criticized the financial misconduct within government institutions, claiming that loans and contracts are now being given out without due diligence simply because of political affiliations.

Mr. Gibril asserted that corruption under the NPP worsened Ghana’s economic hardship and eroded public trust, adding that they “raised the bar for corruption” and betrayed the moral principles they once preached.
