A devastating fire broke out at China City Mall in Santasi, Ashanti Region, on Thursday, October 30, 2025.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded promptly, with the first fire appliance from the Komfo Anokye Fire Station arriving at the scene at 3:31 pm to find an advanced-stage fire.

Three additional pumps were mobilized from the Regional Headquarters Substation, Manhyia, and Twedie Fire Stations to support the firefighting efforts.

Firefighters have successfully confined the fire, preventing further spread.

Preliminary investigations suggest the fire started in a warehouse on the first floor before spreading to other areas.

The exact cause remains unclear.

Despite occupants’ initial attempts to fight the fire with portable extinguishers, the blaze proved too intense, causing portions of the building to cave in.

Fortunately, there are no reported injuries or fatalities.

However, severe damage is evident, with spalling and cracks visible on the walls and exposed reinforcement indicating compromised structural integrity.

The Regional Coordinating Council’s drip machine, a water tanker, and two excavators are on site to assist with fire management and demolishing weakened structures to ensure safety.

The Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, and senior officers, including the Ashanti Regional Fire Commander, ACFO II Peter Tetteh, are providing operational support to the firefighters.
