Deputy National Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Ako Gunn, has indicated that Ghana’s only proven and effective system of government is democracy.

He explained that democracy stands out as the most reliable governance system for the country compared to other systems of governance Ghana has tried, including chieftaincy and military rule.

According to Mr. Gunn, all other nations, like China, which do not practice full democracy, have democratic routes in the selection of leaders; therefore, democracy is by far the best way to govern the country.

“The only tried and tested system is democracy, and whatever the issue will be, democracy is something that we must protect,” he stressed when speaking on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Monday, November 3, 2025.

Mr. Gunn also added that the multi-party democratic system has not failed the country because the Fourth Republic of Ghana is just thirty years old and still evolving.

“I am better off with the practice of democracy in the country than any other system of government, he stressed.

However, Mr. Gunn, expressed that the hypocrisy in governance has become a major hindrance that undermines the democratic system.
