Senior Member of the United Party (UP), Henry Asante, has called for a total reconstruction of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution used for the country’s administration.
He explained that the constitutional powers invested in the presidency and Members of Parliament (MPs) have to be reviewed.
Mr. Asante touched on Article 17 of the 1992 Constitution, which states that all persons are equal before the law and free from discrimination, regardless of one’s status.
“Imagine that an MP cannot be detained while on their way to and returning from Parliament, meanwhile, we all fall under Article 17 of the Constitution,” he added in a panel discussion on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.
He further stated that the recent attack on the National Anti-illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) in Ahafo Hwidiem should not be politicized but rather addressed with preventive measures to avoid similar incidents in the future.
“What has happened is not a good cause, and I don’t want to look at it from a political angle, but rather, how do we resolve it,” Mr. Asante said.
