GCB E-collector in court over GHC490K theft

A 29-year-old Samuel Owusu has been granted GHC500,000 bail with one surety after he pleaded not guilty to a charge of stealing GHC490,400.

Narrating the facts of the case to the court, Police Sergeant Priscilla Avorgah said the complainant in the case is a manager of security and fraud investigation, GCB Bank PLC. ASP/RTD Daniel Boakye, whilst accused Samuel  Owusu is a contract staff at the GCB Bank PLC stationed at the Abossey Okia branch.

The accused is an electronic collector responsible for collecting money from the bank customers and depositing same into their respective accounts using a dedicated phone assigned to him.

On 29th October, 2025 a preliminary audit carried out on his transactions, revealed that an amount of GHC490,400 was stolen from some of his customers’ accounts. The accused was confronted by Mr. Daniel Boakye, the branch manager, and his supervisor which he admitted stealing the money.

He stated that between the month of February and October 2025, he stole the money he had received from his customers and invested it in a qadatralife.com, an online trading website, with the view to gain profit on the money.

Subsequently, he was arrested and brought to the police station to assist with investigations. During investigations, the accused again admitted the offence in his caution statement, stating, he did not steal the entire GHC490,400, at a go, but stole it in bits by not depositing monies he collected from customers into their respective accounts.

The accused was subsequently charged with the offence as stated.

Sergeant Avorgah pleaded with the court to remand the accused person to police custody as investigation continues.

The trial judge, Justice Kwabena Obiri Yeboah adjourned the case to 11 December, 2025.
