Director of Operations for the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Divine Nkrumah, has accused the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for spending 16 million dollars on air conditioners and water heaters to accommodate athletes during the 13th African Games in Ghana.

He further accused the NPP – the then incumbent government of recklessly spendings on the Games.

Speaking on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, he explained that the government used four hostels at the University of Ghana to provide shelter for the athletes.

These hostels, Hilla Limann, Alexander Kwapong, Elizabeth Frances Sey, and Jean Nelson.

Mr. Nkrumah added that the University of Ghana increased hostel fees by 1,000 cedis for students after the African Games, citing facility upgrades and renovations as the reason.

“As I speak, more than 1,600 or 16,000 air conditioners and heaters installed motherboards are nonfunctional in the hostels; meanwhile, students are not benefiting from it,” he said, however.

He made the disclosure after President John Dramani Mahama orders a forensic investigation into the Games.

Mr. Nkrumah applauds the President’s decision to initiate the forensic investigation and underscores its importance.

In his opinion, the forensic audit, when conducted, will ensure transparency and accountability.
