Member of Parliament for Tano South (MP), Charles Asiedu has commended President John Dramani Mahama for his vision to turn Ghana’s Prisons into hubs of agriculture and skills training.

Mr. Charles believes that the reforms are in line with the 24-hour Economy initiative of which prisoners will also be beneficiaries.

The MP who doubles as Member of the Energy committee in Parliament stated that, ex-convicts are often perceived to maintain the same attitudes they had while in prison.

Speaking on Angel Morning Show (AMS), Thursday November 7, 2025, he highlighted that, the reforms in Ghana Prison Service (GPS) would change narratives about convicts, by equipping them with practical hands-on skills.

“We mostly expect to see changes in attitudes, but rather worsen the attitude leading ex-convict in practicing mobile money fraud.”

He emphasized that these reforms will strengthen the agricultural and entrepreneurship sectors in the country, adding that the agricultural component will enable prisoners to produce their own food while in prison.

“These initiatives in the Ghana Prison Service will enable them to produce more food,” he pointed out.
