The Communications Director for the United Party (UP), Solomon Owusu, has said that the Minority leader in Parliament, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo Markin, disappointed his constituents by leading the Minority Members of Parliament to stage a walkout during the vetting of Chief Justice nominee, Justice Paul Baffoe Bonnie.

Speaking on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, Mr Owusu expressed disappointment in the conduct of Mr Afenyo Markin, saying the people he represents expected better leadership and accountability.

According to him, as a representative of the people, the Minority leader was duty-bound to participate in the vetting process and present their concerns constructively, rather than boycotting the exercise. He argued that Afenyo Markin’s decision to walk out showed disregard for the views of his constituents and the general public.

“The Minority were supposed to vet him for every party in their constituency. But Afenyo and his Minority didn’t meet the people in their constituency to discuss the vetting. Out of their own will, they left the process,” Mr Owusu stated.

He further criticised the Minority for what he described as a waste of parliamentary time and public resources, claiming that about two hours allocated for the vetting were lost due to the walkout.

“He wasted two hours of the time; yesterday, Afenyo led the country to waste public funds,” he remarked.

Mr Owusu also cited Article 41(f) of the 1992 Constitution, which outlines the obligations and duties of citizens to contribute to the nation’s development, arguing that the Minority’s conduct contradicted that constitutional responsibility.

The UP Communications Director further advised Members of Parliament from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to reconsider their allegiance and join the United Party, claiming that Afenyo Markin’s leadership was leading them into public ridicule.

“Let me tell Patrick and the rest, they are fine brains. They should not allow themselves to be misled by Afenyo Markin. Join the United Party before you are disgraced in the NPP,” he advised.
