A tragic and bizarre incident has claimed the lives of two chainsaw operators at Bekawopa, a community near Abrafo in the Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira District of the Central Region.

The victims, identified as Yaw Asare, popularly known as Tompuu and believed to be in his 50s, and Eric Teteh, in his 30s, were reportedly working on a timber project when the disaster struck.

According to eyewitnesses, the men were felling one tree when, unexpectedly, another tree unrelated to their activity and with no visible signs of cutting suddenly toppled over and crushed them to death.

Eyewitnesses have described the incident as mysterious, raising suspicions of possible spiritual underpinnings.

The shocking nature of the event prompted traditional leaders to perform rituals at the scene before the bodies were removed, in accordance with local customs.

Police from the Jukwa District Command have since transported the remains to the mortuary for preservation, as an investigation has been launched to establish the circumstances leading to the tragedy.
