The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, has emphasized the crucial role of youth empowerment in driving national development at the Suhum Odwira Festival in the Eastern Region.

Speaking at the 2025 Suhum Odwira Festival, Mrs. Awatey noted that investing in young people is vital for Ghana’s progress.

She enumerated government initiatives such as Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) expansion, Youth in Agriculture, and entrepreneurship support schemes aimed at equipping the youth with employable skills.

The minister appealed to the youth to seize these opportunities, while urging traditional leaders to create more opportunities for youth training and mentorship.

“The youth are not only the leaders of tomorrow; they are active contributors today, innovators, entrepreneurs, farmers, artisans, students, creators, and guardians of our cultural identity,” she said.

Mrs. Awatey also called for a self-help project to be completed by citizens, including those in the diaspora, as a way to foster community development.

She commended the Suhum Traditional Area for preserving its cultural heritage and promoting unity and prayed that the Odwira festival would bring peace, prosperity, and joy to every household.

The Chief of Suhum, Osabarima Ayeh Kofi, speaking on the theme “Youth Development is an Essential Tool for National Development,” said Odwira is not only a celebration of harvest and thanksgiving, but also a sacred reminder of unity, resilience, and heritage.

He added that the festival presents an opportunity to cleanse their spirits, renew bonds, and strengthen the ties that hold their community together.

Osabarima Ayeh Kofi entreated the people to use the occasion to honor their traditions, uplift their youth, and showcase the rich culture of Suhum to the world.
