South African rap star, Nasty C, has opened up about life as an independent artiste, revealing that he currently does not belong to any record label a decision that allows him to directly enjoy the money he earns from his music.

Speaking in an interview on Okay FM, Nasty C stated that being independent allows him to directly enjoy the proceeds from his music.

According to him, most of his revenue now comes from international tours and music streaming, which have become the major pillars of his income.

“I’m an independent artiste at the moment. I don’t belong to any record label, so I’m able to see my money, and most of it comes from tours and streams,” Nasty C said.

The rapper also reflected on how the digital era has changed the value of music. He explained that streams generate far less income compared to the era of physical CD sales.

“It’s not like back in the days. CDs were like hand-to-hand. The streaming thing kind of devalues the music a lot. It takes about 3,000 streams to amount to one CD sale, just like one sale,” he added.
