President John Dramani Mahama has cut the sod for the commencement of the YƐREDUA Vegetable Project in Kukuom, marking a significant step toward boosting agricultural productivity and strengthening food security across the country.

Speaking at the ceremony, the President praised Eric Opoku, Member of Parliament for Asunafo South, describing him as “one of Ghana’s best Agriculture Ministers.”

He further commended him for his unwavering commitment to advancing agricultural development and improving the livelihoods of rural communities.

The YƐREDUA Vegetable Project is expected to greatly enhance local vegetable production, reduce Ghana’s dependence on imported produce, and contribute to sustained national food stability.

The initiative forms part of government’s broader vision to transform the agricultural sector into a vibrant and diversified agro-industrial economy.

The project features modern irrigation infrastructure, processing facilities, and large-scale production schemes aimed at increasing yields, promoting value addition, and creating job opportunities—particularly for young people and women in the Ahafo Region.

President Mahama noted that the investment aligns with government’s ongoing efforts to modernize agriculture, improve rural incomes, and strengthen the nation’s self-sufficiency in food production.

He assured the people of Kukuom of his administration’s continued support for strategic agricultural initiatives that foster long-term development.

Community leaders, farmers, and residents who witnessed the event expressed optimism that the project will generate lasting socio-economic benefits and position Kukuom as a major contributor to Ghana’s vegetable supply chain.
