The Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has revealed that despite the huge sums Ghana has paid to Zipline over the years, the drone delivery company has not prioritised hard-to-reach communities or emergency services.
Speaking during the Government Accountability Series, the Minister explained that this falls short of its original mandate.
However, according to the Minister, a recent performance review showed significant deviations from the expected service delivery focus.
Mr. Akandoh further disclosed that some of the items delivered by Zipline were not the critical medical supplies the service was originally contracted to transport.
He stressed that the government is not discontinuing its relationship with Zipline, contrary to circulating claims.
He clarified the financial obligations Ghana continues to bear under the Zipline drone delivery contract.
According to the minister, the previous NPP administration committed the country to a costly “take-or-pay” arrangement that remains in force.
