UNFPA donates equipment to boost maternal health
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has donated training equipment, advanced simulation models, and family planning commodities worth nearly GHS 40 million to the Ministry of Health.

The donation aims to strengthen midwifery education and reproductive health services in the country.

The equipment will enhance practical training for midwives, increase access to family planning, and contribute to reducing maternal mortality nationwide.

Over one million couples have benefitted from UNFPA-supplied contraceptives this year alone, helping prevent unintended pregnancies and saving hundreds of lives.

Deputy Minister for Health, Prof. Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah, thanked UNFPA for its continued support, stating that the resources will significantly raise the quality of midwifery training across Ghana.

The Ministry expects beneficiary institutions to use the equipment solely for skills development and maintain strict accountability.

UNFPA Country Representative Dr. Wilfred Ochan emphasized that the investment will help build a stronger midwifery workforce and improve care for mothers and newborns as Ghana works toward universal health coverage.
