Six individuals, among them a three-month-old baby, lost their lives after a fire ravaged a residential apartment at Abuakwa Manhyia in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The tragic incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Monday, December 22, 2025. The exact cause of the fire has not yet been established.
Assembly Member for Abuakwa Manhyia, Evans Opoku, confirmed the heartbreaking development and explained that the report reached him shortly after electricity supply was restored to parts of the Ashanti Region following a blackout on the evening of Sunday, December 21, 2025.
Fire officers from the Nkawie and Twedie stations responded promptly and succeeded in extinguishing the flames. However, the victims were trapped inside the apartment when the fire erupted, leading to their death.
Police have transported the deceased to the morgue and commenced ongoing investigations into the incident to unravel the root cause of the inferno.
