Black Stars coach Otto Addo met with deputy captain Thomas Partey on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, hours before Villarreal faced Bayer Leverkusen in the UEFA Champions League.

The talks were positive, with Otto emphasizing the need for players to keep their shape for the World Cup.

Thomas Partey was replaced in the 46th minute by Georges Mikautadze in Villarreal’s 3-0 loss to Bayer Leverkusen at the BayArena.

Coach Otto Addo has been monitoring Ghanaian players, recently, visiting Spain to see Abdul Mumin, Kwasi Sibo, and others.

Other players he’s checked in on include Jordan Ayew, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, Tariq Lamptey and Mohammed Kudus.

These visits aim to promote team cohesion and solidarity ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Mexico, Canada and the United States of America.

Ghana’s Group L opponents are Panama, England, and Croatia. The Black Stars World Cup campaign kicks off against Panama on June 17, followed by England (June 23) and Croatia (June 27).
