Parliamentary Candidate-elect for the Ayawaso East Constituency, Baba Jamal, has made his first appearance before the committee set up to investigate alleged cases of vote-buying during last Saturday’s National Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries.

The committee, chaired by Kofi Totobi Quakyi, has been tasked with probing the exercise, particularly allegations of inducement leveled against Mr. Jamal.

On Monday, February 9, 2026, he appeared before the committee to cooperate with the investigation process.

In a statement, Mr. Jamal disclosed that he reaffirmed his position before the committee, denying any attempt to induce voters as perceived by the public.

“I used the opportunity to reiterate my innocence,” he said in a statement.

He expressed gratitude to the committee for the opportunity to appear before them.

According to Mr. Jamal, his political journey in the constituency has always been guided by integrity and party unity, citing previous contests he loss.

“Indeed, I have previously contested two primaries in the Ayawaso East Constituency and on both occasions lost to the late Member of Parliament (May Allah grant him Jannah). In each instance, I humbly accepted the outcome in the spirit of party unity and cohesion.

“In fact, during the last primaries leading up to the 2024 elections, I secured 309 votes against the winner’s 452 votes,” he pointed out.

The former Member of Parliament for Akwatia noted that this among many other things has contributed significantly to his popularity amongst delegates in Ayawaso East.

“My growing popularity among our cherished party supporters in the constituency is a result of the initiatives I have undertaken, my integrity, and our shared commitment to securing better representation for Ayawaso East in Parliament,” says Baba Jamal.
