TOR resumes crude oil refining after years of shutdown

Corporate Affairs Officer for Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), Godwin Mahama Ayaba has credited the current government for the revival of the refinery.

In an interview with Saddick Adams on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, he stated that TOR’s challenges in previous years were largely due to poor leadership under the previous administration.

“Tema Oil Refinery just lacked leadership for the past years during the previous administration, and that leadership has been restored, and that is why you see TOR shining,” he alleged.

He disclosed that the previous government had seven Managing Directors (MDs) in eight years, none of whom succeeded in bringing the refinery back into operations. In contrast, the current government managed to restore operations in less than a year.

“It is an issue of lack of leadership. There was no sense of purpose, there was no direction, and there was no political will,” he revealed.

He emphasized that no member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) stood on solid ground in 2024 as part of their campaign, assuring Ghanaians that they had TOR’s interests at heart when seeking re-election.

“It is on record that the only party that thought about TOR and had a plan to bring back TOR from its inactivity was the National Democratic Congress (NDC),” he added.
