Jonilar calls for government support for young tech developers

Creative and tech advocate, Jonathan Nii Laryea, popularly known as Jonilar, has called for stronger collaboration between brands and local innovators to boost technology adoption and revenue generation in Ghana.

Speaking on the popular program on Angel FM, ‘Nyansapo’on Tuesday, Jonilar suggested that partnerships with smartphone manufacturers could enable the pre-installation of locally developed apps on widely purchased devices.

“If we can partner with smartphone manufacturers, we could integrate this app into commonly purchased devices,” he said, emphasizing that such initiatives could benefit both developers and the government financially.

He added that a subscription model, such as a small monthly payment of 10 cedis, could help developers generate revenue while ensuring vital information reaches a wider audience.

Jonilar highlighted the growing ecosystem of young Ghanaian developers addressing critical challenges, particularly in areas like disaster preparedness.

“In Accra alone, thousands of young individuals are developing solutions that tackle everyday problems; however, many face obstacles in securing the necessary licenses and connections for their apps,” he explained.

He further noted that in Tamale, over 100 young developers have created applications that support market women and the agricultural sector, yet financial backing remains a significant challenge.
