Use Artificial Intelligence responsibly – Sam George warns

The Minister of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation of Ghana, Samuel Nartey George, has warned Ghanaians about the irresponsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Speaking at the Horlapcafe and Robotic Experience Launch, on Sunday, February 15, 2026, he stated that AI is fantastic, but it is only as good as the information it is fed.

“Not everything on the internet is true, so please be careful how you use those tools, whether it’s ChatGPT, Perplexity, or even the Google LLMs,” he said.

He underscored that the real natural resource from 2030 onward will not be oil or cocoa; it will be data, “In fact, from today, data is money, and data is power.”

He highlighted that excessive use of AI tools can lead to the selling of information, citing examples;

“Those applications that come up and tell you to upload your photos, and then they show you singing, or display a baby photo of yourself, or depict you as an old man, guys, you are literally selling your image for nothing to programmers,

He continued, “Ask yourself why you have a conversation with your friend and say, ‘Charlie, I want to buy a double strap monk shoe,’ and then you go on Facebook five minutes later and see an ad for that shoe.

Accra recorded 140mm of rain on June 29, one of the highest in years – Prez. Mahama

“It’s because your phone’s microphone is on, and the algorithms are picking up your conversations, learning your model, and understanding your habits,’ he pointed out.

He further admonished Chief Executive Officers and Directors to cross-check speeches given to them by staff and assistants to avoid spreading misinformation, stressing that not everything on the internet is true.

“And for the CEOs in the room, please, when your staff bring you speeches, be careful. Do your own research, because many staff today, when they are supposed to write a speech, just go to an AI tool and type ‘prepare a speech for the CEO’ with these topics,” Sam George reiterated.
