Cocoa farmers want their money not jargons – Minority tells NDC gov’t

Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government for prioritizing rhetoric over empirical reforms, citing unpaid cocoa farmers as a major failure.

According to him, Parliament will take decisive action to ensure cocoa farmers receive their rightful payments from the government.

Speaking during the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, February 15, 2026, Mr. Afenyo-Markin expressed concern over delays in payments to cocoa farmers, despite recent government reforms aimed at revamping the sector.

“What I want the NPP to tell the NDC government is that it isn’t about the big english spoken in Accra, on social media, or by CSOs. Cocoa farmers want their money. Pay them their monies,” he said.

He stressed that the situation is causing significant financial losses for farmers, noting that “every cocoa farmer is losing 10 million cedis per bag. That is the issue at hand.”

The Minority Leader added that Parliament would be closely monitoring the issue this week and would hold the government accountable.

“This week, Minority and Majority in Parliament will be hot. They will pay cocoa farmers their money,” he asserted.
