Businessman and Leader of the Union Government (UG), Akwasi Addai Odike, has described the recent cabinet emergency meeting convened by President John Dramani Mahama on the cocoa sector crisis as useless and bogus.
According to him, despite the meeting, the concerns of cocoa farmers remain unresolved, with rhetoric and blame games taking precedence over concrete solutions.
Odike argued that this renders the meeting insignificant and unproductive, challenging the President to ensure drastic measures are implemented.
“So what sense at all is the cabinet meeting they convened? They [NDC] should come out to explain to us. We always boast that we have leaders in this country! There is no explanation the government will give with regard to the cocoa issues that would make farmers accept and admit until their demands are met.
“Mr. Mahama, the fact of the matter is that the cabinet meeting you held is bogus and useless, so I entreat your government to come again,” Odike said on Monday, February 16, 2026, on Angel TV.
He expressed dismay at commentaries by government communicators and officials attempting to claim innocence regarding the challenges faced by farmers.
“Mr. Mahama, please, the explanation you are giving to the farmers is not ideal, kindly seek proactive measures to solve the problems at hand.”
Odike further called on the government to revise its approach to handling the issue and publicly admit to farmers that it erred by failing to think through the matter properly during the cabinet meeting.
