A lecturer at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Ellen Ama Daaku, has expressed strong disagreement with the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) management’s decision to reduce management staff salaries amid efforts to address the Board’s current liquidity challenges.

In a discussion with Saddick Adam on Anopa Bofo on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, she emphasized that the financial difficulties facing parents who own cocoa farms have placed a heavier burden, preventing some students from pursuing tertiary education.

“Level 100 students were also admitted in January, The money which will be used to pay the students’ fees is not available. The cocoa has been there for three (3) months, from November,” she asserted.

COCOBOD management, staff should’ve taken 50% pay cut instead of the 20% – Ama Daaku

Mrs. Ama Daaku indicated that a deeper pay cut would have demonstrated stronger commitment and shared sacrifice among both management and staff during this difficult financial period.

She added that the salary cut is “cosmetic”, explaining that the allowances received by management are substantial enough that the salary reduction will not significantly affect them.
