Heartbreak for Ghana as Benjamin Azamati withdraws from Athletics Championships

Spearheading Ghana to end its long trophy drought by winning the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) remains a dream yet to be fulfilled, Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Simon Edwin Okraku has underscored.

According to him, the target stands as one of his unfinished businesses as the leader of the Association.

Mr. Okraku emphasized that, though the ambition is daunting, faith continues to drive his resolve, as the pursuit of continental glory is not only personal but also a national mission.

“I want to win the AFCON, only God knows how many years it’s been since we won it. We’ve lost count… Basically, I want to win every tournament for Ghana. I want to place Ghana on the medal podium,” he stated in an exclusive interview with Accra-based Asaase Radio.

He stressed that restoring Ghana’s place among Africa’s football giants is a responsibility he is determined to accomplish.

Ghana are four-time winner of the AFCON title (1963, 1965, 1978, 1982). Although their last triumph came in 1982, they came close to restoring their glory in 1992, 2010, and 2015, but failed on those occasions.
