Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, says the current administration inherited a struggling economy and a nation confronted with significant socio-economic challenges before the assumption of office by President John Dramani Mahama.

According to the Majority Leader, the Mahama-led administration took over what he described as a dark Ghana.

He asserted this during his remarks following the State of the Nation Address (SONA) presented by the President while speaking on behalf of the Majority Caucus in Parliament.

“We want to thank His Excellency, President John dramani Mahama, for his excellent leadership. Ghanaians are very grateful to you. Mr. Speaker, it is obvious that the Ghana you inherited and the Ghana you speak of today is like day and night.

“The Ghana you inherited iwas as dark as the dark dresses they are wearing on the other side, and the Ghana you speak of today is clearly as bright as the white dresses we are wearing on this side,” Mr. Ayariga said unequivocally.

According to the Majority Leader, the SONA is a true representation of the country’s current economic recovery efforts and the progress being made under the present administration to stabilise key sectors of the economy.

“Mr. Speaker, everything that you have said here is true. Mr. Speaker, Hon. Afenyo Markin will attest to that. He will attest to the fact that the big push is pushing through Winneba steadily, and he is getting premix.”

Mr. Ayariga further indicated that improving economic conditions are gradually easing the burden on citizens, citing declining prices of essential commodities as evidence of government interventions beginning to yield results.

He cited the ability of many Ghanaians, particularly within the Muslim community, to afford basic food items during the Ramadan fasting period as a sign of improving purchasing power.

“This Ramadan, many of our people could afford sugar and rice because the prices have come down.”
