Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has criticized President John Dramani Mahama’s administration after a year in office, claiming that the administration has largely relied on sloganeering.

Speaking during the February 27, 2026, State of the Nation Address (SONA), Mr. Afenyo-Markin stated categorically that the President has failed to take action.

“Mr. Speaker, what the President failed to tell the people of Ghana is that, after one year in government, he is still resorting to sloganeering, with no real action,” he said on the floor of Parliament.

The leader pointed out pressing national issues that remain unaddressed, despite the government’s apparent indifference.

“Mr. Speaker, electricity tariffs have skyrocketed, and Ghanaians can no longer afford electricity. We have thousands of youth dismissed through letters from the Chief of Staff, part of the State of the Nation’s Address.”

“They don’t care about cocoa farmers, yet they talk about inflation and macroeconomics, are we going to eat macroeconomics?”

He added, “Ghanaians continue to suffer from galamsey hardships, and we expect concrete actions to be taken.”
