Aaron Antwi challenges NDC on economic consistency amid crisis

A member of the communication team for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Aaron Asiedu Antwi, has questioned the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding their stance on whether external factors can affect the Ghanaian economy.

Speaking on the “Anopa Bofuo” show on Angel FM, hosted by Ohemaa Sekyiwaa on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, he emphasised that if the NDC communicators previously claimed that external factors could not influence Ghana, they should now apologise to Ghanaians for their inconsistency, especially now that they are in power.

This discussion arises in light of analysts’ predictions of rising fuel bills for Ghana, following the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.

Mr. Antwi highlighted that during the previous government’s tenure, the NDC dismissed assertions that the Russian-Ukraine war would impact Ghana’s economy.

He asserted that the current Middle East crisis will soon have similar consequences, stating that an analyst’s prediction is unnecessary to understand the obvious repercussions.

“We don’t even need analysts or mathematicians to tell us this. If you claimed that external factors cannot affect Ghana simply because a different government was in power, you sent a certain signal,” he stated.

Mr. Antwi urged the NDC to clarify their position on this matter, insisting that they should not attribute any impending economic challenges solely to the conflict between Iran, the USA, and Israel.

He reiterated that this situation will have repercussions for Ghana soon, and if it does, the NDC should not blame these external events for rising prices in the energy sector.

Mr. Antwi further called on the NDC to apologise to Ghanaians and provide clear explanations to help citizens prepare for the challenges ahead.

“If you lie just to gain power, then you should be humble enough to apologise to Ghanaians,” he concluded.
