Prime Minister Terrance Michael Drew of Saint Kitts and Nevis has revealed that his growing interest in Ghana was inspired by President John Dramani Mahama’s address at the United Nations in 2025.

Speaking during a luncheon in his honour at the Jubilee House on March 4, 2026, Prime Minister Drew described the President’s UN presentation as “profound” and said it highlighted Ghana’s leadership on critical issues, including reparatory justice and global cooperation.

“One of the things that sparked my interest in Ghana was listening to the President’s address at the United Nations last year, the depth of his presentation was quite inspiring.”

Terrance Michael Drew emphasized that the speech was more than words, noting that it had tangible impacts at the United Nations level, particularly Ghana’s efforts to place the historical tragedy of slavery and colonization on record as one of humanity’s gravest crimes.

The Prime Minister also praised President Mahama’s leadership in rallying CARICOM support for initiatives aimed at addressing historical injustices and strengthening Africa–Caribbean relations.

“This visit is more than official diplomacy; it is a homecoming. Driving through Ghana, I couldn’t tell the difference between Saint Kitts and Nevis and Ghana. It is profound, and it reveals the deep cultural and historical connections between our peoples.”

Mr. Drew’s comments underscore the growing ties between Ghana and the Caribbean, particularly in areas such as labor mobility, cultural exchanges, and education, with both regions seeking stronger people-to-people connections and cooperative development initiatives.
