‎Member of Parliament (MP) for Akuapem North, Samuel Awuku, has launched the ‘Sammi Awuku Change Makers Award’ aimed at recognizing outstanding students and teachers, a move to improve teaching and learning at St. Augustine’s College (AUGUSCO).
‎
The scheme, an initiative by the APSU 2G1 year group, was launched during the institution’s 96th Anniversary /Speech and Prize Giving Day held on Saturday, March 14, 2026.

According to Mr. Awuku, the ‘Change Makers Award’ will be presented yearly to a student and a teacher who demonstrate high standards of service and uprightness.
‎

He said, ‎”This award is intended to recognize students and teachers who demonstrate exceptional leadership, public spiritedness, commitment to sustainability, and the courage to champion positive change within their houses, classrooms, campus, and communities.

‎‎”Over the next six years, this award will be presented annually to one student and one teacher whose actions exemplify the highest standards of integrity, initiative, and service,” he disclosed.
‎
‎Mr.Awuku noted that the outstanding student and teacher will receive a cash prize of GH¢5,000.00 to signify a recognition of the positive impact they have on their environment and the inspiration they provide for others.
‎
‎He reiterated that the purpose of this initiative is defined by the willingness to serve others, to protect the environment, and to act in ways that promote sustainable and responsible development.
‎

“In doing so, we hope to reinforce the idea that true leadership is measured by the difference one makes in the lives of others and in the communities we share,” Mr.Awuku asserted.
‎
‎He further urged the students of St. Augustine’s College to embrace opportunities with determination and a sense of responsibility.
‎

‎”To the students gathered here today, let me encourage you to embrace the opportunities that lie before you with curiosity, determination, and a sense of responsibility for the world around you.
‎

“Your time here is not limited to preparing for examinations or future careers; it also includes discovering the kind of individuals you wish to become and the values that will guide your choices in the years ahead,” he advised.
