‎The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), in collaboration with the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, has informed the public of its intention to clamp down on users of 2025 DV plates.
‎
‎In a statement, the DVLA noted that the exercise will begin on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, to clamp down on users of 2025 DV plates and expired DP stickers.
‎
‎According to the Authority, the release of the 2026 DV plates in February 2026 automatically renders the continued use of 2025 DV plates and expired DP stickers illegal.
‎
‎This followed the Authority’s delay in preparing for the rollout of new vehicle license plates, which resulted in the extended use of 2025 DV plates and DP stickers until the 2026 DV plates were released.
‎
‎Subsequently, on February 4, 2026, the Authority issued a press release announcing the issuance of 2026 DV plates to motor traders, fleet owners, and licensed trade‑plate dealers who had applied following a media release inviting applications for allocations in November 2025.
‎
‎The Authority further indicated that the use of DV plates is clearly set out under Regulation 23 of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2180), and added that vehicle owners who do not fall under any of the categories provided for under L.I. 2180 are required to register those vehicles before they can be used on the roads.
