Mahama will not kowtow to NPP’s distraction – Charles Asiedu

Tano South Member of Parliament, Charles Asiedu, has responded to the minority caucus in Parliament over their calls for the removal of the Energy Sector Levy introduced by the government.

He stated without mincing words that the government will not heed the pressure of the minority to scrap what has intended purposes.

“As I speak to you now, we will purchase oil today, tomorrow, next week, next month, and next year until we transition from fossil fuels to renewables, then we can remove that GH¢1 fuel levy. But until then, the tax will continue to exist,” the MP stressed.

Mr. Asiedu’s statement comes amid the minority’s demands for the immediate removal of the tax, citing a sharp rise in fuel prices.

The MP criticized the minority for being ignorant of the implementation process, specifically referring to the walkout they staged during Parliament proceedings to approve the Energy Sector Levy (Amendment) Bill, 2025.

“Let the NPP know that the GH¢1 fuel levy was not implemented for the payment of energy sector debt. It is a fund to be used for oil purchasing.”
