Shatta Wale hits back at critics over ‘street’ outfit at World Cup raffle launch

Ghanaian dancehall star, Shatta Wale, has fired back at critics who questioned his outfit at the launch of the Ghana World Cup Raffle.

The event, held at the Ministry of Finance in Accra on March 17, 2026, brought together key stakeholders and celebrities to support the Black Stars’ World Cup campaign.

Shatta Wale turned heads with an all-black “street-king” look, rocking a baseball cap, dark shades, a simple T-shirt, glossy leather-style trousers, and chunky custom pendants.

However, his appearance sparked debate online, with some netizens arguing that his outfit did not match the formal tone of the event, especially as others showed up in suits and kaftans.

Addressing the backlash during a live session while his song “Yawa Ni” played in the background, the outspoken artiste made it clear he owes no one an explanation.

“I live my life with the music I sing. We chose street over bow tie. Nobody can force me to wear a suit. If I wake up and feel this is what I will wear, I will wear it,” he said.

He added, “You dress the way you want to be addressed. Nobody will see a VS on my neck and address me anyhow. That’s very costly, that’s thousands of dollars on my neck.”
