The Member of Parliament for Shai-Osudoku constituency, Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, has announced that GHC292.4 million has been earmarked in the 2026 budget to sustain the Free Sanitary Pad distribution programme.

She disclosed the government had demonstrated a bold commitment to menstrual health by distributing over six million sanitary pads to girls in basic and secondary schools in 2025 and by allocating GHC 292.4 million in the 2026 budget to sustain free nationwide distribution.

According to the minister, the initiative aims to eliminate financial barriers, reduce period poverty, and ensure that girls remain healthy during their menstrual periods.

She disclosed that the distribution will benefit more than 1,000 girls across 17 schools and institutions in the Greater Accra Region.

She asserted that this forms part of the government’s efforts to expand access to menstrual hygiene products and fight period poverty in vulnerable communities.

She assured that the government will continue to collaborate with government agencies and partners to ensure transparency, effective monitoring, and public awareness.

“Distribution will benefit over 1000 girls across 17 schools, through collaboration among government agencies and partners to ensure transparency, effective monitoring, and public awareness,” he stated during a distribution exercise at selected schools in the Greater Accra region on Thursday, March 19, 2026
