‘We need to cease politicisation of fuel prices – Former Suame MCE

Former Suame Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Maxwell Ofosu Boakye, has urged politicians to stop politicising commodities over which the country has no control.

Speaking to Ohemaa Sakyiwaa on Angel TV, he highlighted that some commodities, such as fuel, simply follow world market prices, which are not the direct result of anyone’s actions.

He therefore stressed the need for politicians to desist from indulging in partisanship when discussing such issues.

“So if Mahama said the economy is stable now, why is the fuel price increasing? The same thing happened in the cocoa prices, so on simple terms, we don’t have control over the market price, your work is buy and sell,” he stated.

Mr. Boakye expressed concern about the President’s assertion that the country’s economy is resilient, despite fuel prices remaining unstable, and compared the situation to the cocoa sector.

He described this as self-praise in the midst of challenges and said he could not comprehend President Mahama’s posture, knowing how he constantly blamed former President Nana Akufo-Addo for mismanaging the country, even though price reductions were driven by world market forces.

“I said this government is a ‘setting’ government, because of how he lied to the people to gain power, saying it to look like one Akufo-Addo is the one who has destroyed the country,” he stated.

He added that even if caution is exercised, should tensions in the Middle East continue for another two weeks, fuel prices will rise further, which would automatically push up inflation across the economy.
