The Ashanti North Regional Police Command has reported the killing of one suspected robber and the arrest of seven others connected to a robbery incident at Aframso Bridge on the Mampong-Ejura Highway in the Region.

A special police intelligence operation led to the arrest of the suspects and the killing. They have been identified as Amidu Sajo, Ibrahim Sule, Karim Nadu, Malik Jibrilla, Yusifa Asakoko, Umaru Issifu, Damani Yamba, and Ibrahim Iddrisu.

According to a police statement, the suspects were arrested at Amakwa Dadey Hotel at Ejura on March 30, 2026, at about 1520 hours, where they had convened to share money suspected to be proceeds from robbery.

It explained that during the operation, Ibrahim Iddrisu, who had been declared wanted by the Atebubu Police Command for similar crimes, was shot twice after he attacked an officer with a machete.

He “took to his heels, and whilst being pursued, he suddenly turned and attacked one of the officers with a cutlass and attempted to snatch a service weapon from the same officer. In the process, he sustained a gunshot wound to the left leg and left arm.

“The suspect was rushed to the Mampong Government Hospital and later referred to the Jamasi Pope John Paul Hospital for further treatment, but was pronounced dead by the medical officer on duty while receiving treatment,” the police stated.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Mampong Government Hospital morgue for preservation and further action.
