Highlife musician Gladstorm Kwabena Akwaboah has highlighted the importance of artistic growth, noting that his experimentation with diverse genres reflects the evolving nature of music.

Speaking on the Anopa Bofo show on Angel TV/FM with Saddick Adams, Akwaboah emphasised that artists must remain versatile. “Music is evolving, and if you don’t evolve, you will be left behind,” he said.

Akwaboah stressed that while highlife remains the foundation of Ghanaian music, exploring other genres helps artists connect with a broader audience. “Where I stand is highlife, but once in a while I do other genres to attract different fanbases,” he explained.

He added that maintaining the essence of native genres is essential for international recognition. “When I visit Jamaica, it’s dancehall and reggae, and you know reggae is not native to Ghana. For me, to identify myself, when I’m asked about my genre, I cannot mention any genre, because Ghana is known for highlife,” he emphasised.
