A 22-year-old man, Ebenezer Anning, has been killed in a gory road accident on the Assin Foso–Kumasi stretch of the N8 Highway at Assin Dansame in the Assin North District of the Central Region.

The incident occurred at about 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, on the outskirts of Assin Asempaneye and Dansame.

According to reports, the deceased was knocked down by a Toyota Voxy commercial vehicle with registration number GW 2890 – 26 while attempting to cross the road. He died on the spot.

His body was later conveyed to the Assin Praso Presbyterian Hospital, where it was received at the Emergency Ward before being transferred to the New Edubiase Government Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

The driver of the vehicle, Enock Nyarko, later turned himself in to the Assin Praso District Police Command and reported the incident.

He told police he was driving from Obuasi towards Mankessim when the deceased suddenly crossed the road from his offside.

The Police, upon receiving the information, visited the scene, where key reference points were identified and marked to aid investigations. The accident vehicle has been impounded as part of the investigation.

The driver is currently in police custody, assisting with investigations. Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased, a native of Assin Dansame, was returning home after visiting a friend to watch a football match when the tragic incident occurred.

Meanwhile, traditional leaders in Dansame have raised concerns over what they describe as a disturbing rise in mysterious deaths among the youth in the community.

In response, they have initiated a series of traditional rites aimed at cleansing the community and offering spiritual protection against further misfortune.

The rituals include the slaughtering of sheep, visits to nearby river bodies, and a symbolic sweeping of the entire community.

The collected refuse is then gathered at the outskirts, a customary practice believed to drive away evil forces and ward off bad omens.
