Member of Parliament for Asunafo North, Haruna Mohammed, has stated that Ghanaians have come to appreciate “the clear difference between the current administration of John Dramani Mahama and the previous government.”
Speaking on Angel TV on Thursday, April 16, 2026, he said that the management of the economy under the erstwhile New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, made life difficult for many Ghanaians due to high fuel prices and multiple taxes.
“Today, Ghanaians have seen the difference between Mahama’s government and the past government,” he mentioned.
Haruna Mohammed criticised the NPP administration for attributing economic challenges to external factors such as the Russia-Ukraine war.
“During that time, everything was blamed on the Russia-Ukraine war. Even when someone doesn’t get water to bath and you ask DCE he would say Russia and Ukraine are fighting,” he asserted.
He pointed out that the rising fuel costs during that period, noting that prices increased significantly when crude oil prices surged on the world market.
“When crude oil prices went up on the world market, fuel prices also shot up. At a point, diesel was selling at about GH¢23 per litre, while petrol was around GH¢17 or GH¢18 per litre,” he explained.
According to him, the situation was worsened by the introduction of several taxes, including the E-levy, emission levy, and COVID-19 levy.
He also added that the current government under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is focused on improving the welfare of citizens.
“That is why people say a good government has come, not because of slogans but because there is now a president who thinks about the wellbeing of the people,” he indicated.
