A 37-year-old security officer at Sentuo Oil Refinery, has been convicted by the Circuit Court at Akim Swedru in the Eastern Region, for offensive conduct on social media.
The suspect, Emmanuel Oppong Krah, was found guilty on three counts: offensive conduct conducive to breach of the peace, publication of false news, and threat of death.
Operating under the social media account name “STILLGODWIN”, the accused persistently launched unprovoked attacks and insults against the Member of Parliament for Akim Oda, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, across various platforms.
Despite repeated cautions, he willfully continued his conduct for personal amusement.
On March 14, 2026, at about 3:01 p.m., the accused published false and offensive statements on a WhatsApp group platform known as “Hot Issues.”
In the post, he made derogatory remarks about the MP’s speech and further alleged that radio stations owned by the lawmaker were engaged in illegal electricity connections and had failed to pay for power consumption.
The publication, which circulated widely within the community, reportedly caused public concern and disaffection.
The General Manager of the station, who was also accused of bribing Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) officials, lodged a complaint with the Akim Oda Police.
Police investigations, including consultations with ECG officials, established that the allegations were false and baseless.
On April 17, 2026, the accused was arraigned before the Akim Swedru Circuit Court, presided over by Justice Akosua Atta Nyarko.
He pleaded guilty with explanation to all three counts, but the Court found his explanation untenable and entered a conviction on all charges.
In mitigation, the accused pleaded for mercy and promised not to repeat such conduct.
However, the Court, sentenced him to a fine of 200 penalty units (GH₵2,400.00) or, in default, three years’ imprisonment.
He was ordered to execute a bond to be of good behaviour for three years, failing which he would serve another three years in prison.
